This summer I’ve really gotten into Mr. Robot. Firstly, I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something which both entertains and touches on mental health issues. Secondly, as if you need to be reminded, it’s great getting sucked into a new show at the beginning of term (as long as it doesn’t detract from your studies, ahem.)

Without giving away too many spoilers, Mr. Robot is a new television series (rated 9.1/10 on IMDB!) about Elliot, a cyber crime expert by day and hacker by night. The show involves a number of mental health problems including social anxiety disorders, dissociative and personality disorders and substance abuse. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but the writer’s personal experiences and the presence of a real psychiatrist to help with the script and depiction of mental illness have nonetheless contributed towards a great show – one which, although just fiction, showcases some mental illnesses in a unique and quite accurate way.
